Playing With Dynamite

The anti Obama vitriol spewed by self serving politicians, talk show hosts, and bloggers is not only disgusting it is playing with dynamite. There is nothing to gain and everything to lose by stirring the emotions of unbalanced individuals who may resort to violence.

Yesterday my husband was accosted and verbally abused at the bank by a customer who went ballistic when he noticed the Obama sticker on our car. The man screamed every expletive in the book then stormed out of the bank slamming the door so hard it almost broke the glass. He was last seen pealing out of the parking lot into traffic. Fortunately my husband stayed calm or the man might have started a fist fight. Everyone in the bank was speechless.

Whatever happened to civil discourse? Is the concept of a loyal opposition dead? Why is compromise impossible? Can't we agree to disagree? Has our country been taken over by crazy radicals on the right and the left? Is reconciliation impossible? What kind of example are these people setting for our children? Where will this end?

Hopefully it won't take a tragedy to stop the insanity.

  1. Oh D-M I am SO sorry this horrible thing happened to Gary....and yes, agree with you: what happened to democracy, civilised discourse and agreeing to disagree?

These seem to me to be symptoms of a society under stress, real stress. People are cracking and breaking and I don't really know what I can do about it except to keep checking in with my heart every time I feel wobbly instability out there in the material world.
